What is typewriter art?
Typewriter art is a picture made entirely of typed characters. Darker areas use heavier keys, or several keys typed over one another, and lighter areas use small marks or bare paper. Inkstrike does this automatically for any photo or video.
Is Inkstrike free?
Yes. There is no account, no watermark and no limit on how many pictures you make.
Are my photos and videos uploaded anywhere?
No. Everything is processed inside your browser, on your own device. Your files are never sent to a server.
What video formats and lengths work?
MP4, MOV and WebM files that your browser can play. Videos are converted frame by frame, up to 30 seconds for MP4 output and 10 seconds for GIF output. The result has no sound.
Can I use my own font?
Yes. Choose from ten built-in typewriter fonts, or upload a TTF, OTF, WOFF or WOFF2 file. Monospaced fonts give the most authentic result.
What can I save?
A PNG image, an SVG with outlined characters that opens in Illustrator or Figma, a plain text file, and an MP4 or GIF animation. Photos can export a typing animation, and videos export a typewritten video.
